I do not know about you, but I am a class hoarder, I sign up for classes all the time, then about 90% of the time I do not take part. The good thing though is with them all they can be done at your own pace, so if I am busy the month of the class I can always go back and do it at a later date. This week with all the talk about Maggie Holmes new Mini book album class, it really got me inspired to go back and complete the More Happy Little Moments class I signed up for months ago.
HERE is the new class I have signed up for and I can not wait to get started with it. I also managed to get the kit she used to complete it so I am very happy about that. I plan to turn it into an album of our trip to the states.
(Seriously I have a HUGE scrappy crush on Maggie, her style is AMAZING)
Anyway I have worked hard this week and completed my album and I have to say I love how it turned out, every single page just makes me happy.
To start with I grabbed a book that came with the kit and I decided to go ahead and paint it gold, well that did not work out I mean I did 3 coats but it looked YUCK!!! SO I ran out and bought paint spray along with an old book and did it that way, what a difference using the spray paint, I now want to spray my entire house gold :)
I have to say I am so happy that I did the cover before starting on the inside as I would have ended up hating my album if that painted mess happened after all the hard work I put in. I chose not to embellish the front though so I was not holding all the bits every time I touched the album.
Here is my cover and I am happy with how it turned out.
Can I add how much I just LOVE the look of it finished, all of those pretty layers.
For my theme I decided to go with Lucy at 7 and documented all the things she loves at this age. Dancing, friends etc and luckily I had a fair few pictures to choose from. As the inside cover I chose her latest school picture, the reason for this was this page had an ugly picture on it and this picture was the perfect size to hide it.
Next page is really the only one I used like Maggie's I used a few punches like she did and went from there.
For the rest of the album I just played with all the beautiful bits in the kit we got, I also included my April Freckled Fawn kit along with some of my stash on my desk such as wood veneer, flair etc. I still have a ton left of the kit and I will mix that in with future projects.
Here are a couple of things I learned doing this class.
1. I love the end result of this book, love that it is made from an old book.
2. I do not like the look of mines with the bare book pages, I ended up painting or misting each page.
3. It took a LOT of work.
4. Always do the cover first ,at least the painting in case it does not work out.
5. Do not sew over a paper clip, it will break your needle and hit you on the face LOL
6. While I love the end result I may not make this type of mini again.
